Description

Aurora Borealis, a sight not often seen from south Texas.

The Sun recently hurled multiple coronal mass ejections towards Earth, giving us the strongest geomagnetic storm in at least two decades. This has brought the aurora well away from the poles and allowed many of us to see them for the first time, including me!

I expected to see a faint glow on the northern horizon at best, but they ended up spanning about half the sky from northwest to southeast and reached above the Big Dipper which was nearly overhead at the time, exceeding my expectations by a long shot!
